Projections that can be along the face of a wall, as a String Band (one to three courses), or at a quoin where a change of shape is required; corbelling is also used to form a Springer (or Knee) for the start of a Gable. Corbels can be built using plain Headers or moulded bricks to provide decoration but to ensure stability the total projection must not exceed the wall thickness.
