This four-centred arch, with its clearly defined compound curve, is one of the most popular of arch forms and derives its name from a period of architectural history rich in the construction of brickwork. An Ellipsi-Gothic Arch it springs from a horizontal line; there are various geometrical methods of setting out to determine the relationship between the span and the rise.
