Flexible metal interleaved between courses of slates or plain tiles at abutments (see earlier description) and turned up the face of a wall, the vertical upturn is then cover flashed (see Stepped Flashing). Also used at mitred hips, valleys and vertical angles. An alternative today is preformed metal, fibreglass or PVC units.
