Scutch:
Definition:

Now replaced by the Brick and Comb Hammers for the fine trimming of cut bricks. The Scutch was made with a long thin steel blade, about 30mm wide, as a double-ended chisel that was held centrally in a slotted wooden handle. The blade was clamped in the slot by a hardwood wedge and the top of the handle was bound with a brass stirrup to prevent splitting.
