Inter Livery Pancake Races
Following the tremendous efforts and great triumph of Past Master John Schofield last year, we are again taking part in the Inter-Livery Pancake Races on Shrove Tuesday 13 February. The event is hosted by the Poulters’ Company and takes place in Guildhall Yard. This is now a City tradition and raises money for Lord Mayor’s Charities and the Poulters’ Pelican Trust.
The ‘runners’, being Masters, Wardens or Liverymen, wear colourful robes or fancy costumes. The course requires some tossing of pancakes as well as outright speed on the flat. As we know from last year, keeping one’s hat on also requires considerable skill and dexterity. This year our Upper Warden, Jenny Rolls, who is already in training, is running for the Company. It would be great to assemble a suitably loud support group at Guildhall to cheer her on.
The first pancake toss is scheduled for 12 noon. A hot buffet lunch, including wine and pancakes, will be available in the Crypt from 1.30pm to 3pm (cost to be advised). Catering is provided by the Clink catering company. Alternatively, there will be a stall selling pancakes.
If you would like to attend then please email the Clerk (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) including whether you
plan to stay for lunch. This is not a formal T&B event so the Clerk will advise on how to and book your own ticket and lunch. Watching the races without taking lunch is free. So do come and cheer the Upper Warden on to victory.
