The Master chaired a zoom event with two Liverymen from the Worshipful Company of Constructors as guest speakers. Martin Gettings and Robert Beales are two of the Constructors’ Liverymen who have been working actively with the Livery Climate Action Group (LCAG) to take forward their programme.
Martin and Rob explained their involvement with LCAG over the last two years and took us through a presentation summarising progress to date and future work streams. The Constructors are very active in this field and have a Climate Action Committee with five task groups covering areas such as preparing a net zero action plan for the Company, supporting LCAG and developing industry influence. In discussion we agreed that this last area was one where the Ts and Bs could have a significant role, since we are already engaged with three major trades.
Discussion with T&B members then covered issues such as the arguments for and against tree removal to permit major projects such as HS2, and the need to keep and refurbish existing building stock as opposed to pulling buildings down and rebuilding.
At the end of the meeting we agreed to keep in touch with Martin and Rob to see how our Company’s efforts, summarised on this website in the LCAG section, can be coordinated with the main LCAG programme.
