The Tylers and Bricklayers were out in force today at the London Guildhall for day 1 of the Livery Schools careers demonstration. This event takes place in February each year where the cragt based livery companies engage in 2 days of demonstrations and talks given to primary schoolchildren from mostly London city based schools.
This year, led by Court Assistant Tony Yainni, a member of the T&B's Craft Committee, the company was supported by non-liverymen (but hopefully soon to join us!) Jack Dawson, Head of Construction at East Herts College and James Brown of Winchmore Brickwork. Jack was on hand to show the young children the basics of a brick, including size, properties and how to lay them.
And James was able to explain the tools used in the the trade. Court Assistant Tony Yianni proved to be an excellent communicator and more than capable of handling the many, many questions from budding young bricklayers. The event attracts abour 1,300 children.
Thanks go to Tony Yianni and his team, together with CA Ian Wilson, Chair of the T&Bs Craft Committee, and in particular Winchmore Brickwork for their help in organising the event.
