An appeal during the Mastership of Tom Hoffman raised sufficient funds to support two Presentees to Christ's Hospital School in Horsham, West Sussex.
Our first Presentee was Onyinye who completed her education at the School, achieved a degree at Kings College University and now runs her own business.
Onyinye served a six year Apprenticeship under the guidance of Apprentice Master Simon Martin, and is now a Freeman of the Company.
Onyinye said "The Tylers and Bricklayers gave me the opportunity of a lifetime by making me their first Presentee at Christ’s Hospital. Going to a boarding school in West Sussex gave me the chance to broaden my horizons and exposed me to a level of aspiration that was not available to me in my hometown of Edmonton, North London. I was able to try a wide range of extra-curricular activities and became an expert in debating which saw me become a finalist at the University of Oxford’s International Schools competition.
The education I received at Christ’s Hospital had led me to complete two degrees by the age of 22 at the Russell Group university, King’s College London. Whilst at University, I received a plethora of awards including top 10 black student in the United Kingdom. I credit my success to the time I spent at Christ’s Hospital."
Our second Presentee, Kiyan, is currently in the Sixth Form at Christ's Hospital studying Computer Science, Physics, Maths and Further Maths A Levels. He hopes to go to University afterwards and then take up a career in AI.
Kiyan became an Apprentice to the Company in October 2024 under the guidance of Apprentice Master Lesley Day.
In 2022 the Company raised funds for two further presentees at Christ's Hospital School. The latest fundraising was the initiative of Past Master Simon Martin, and the Appeal Committee was headed by Past Master Lesley Day. The process for finding our third presentee will begin next year, with the aim of the pupil starting at the School in September 2026.
